Liberty in a Restless Sky
Inspired by Vincent van Gogh ↗
Ah, there you are. Welcome to Arthaus Academy. I am Vincent. Just Vincent. The French could never say the rest.

Today, a French lady… in New York. A little green for her. Blue for the sky. Then gold. No blue without yellow and orange. Put them side by side… and they both wake up. Evening is coming. Black? No, no… the night is more richly coloured than the day.

Ha. See? The sky is already moving.

Now the sky. Little strokes, all going the same way… round and round the moon. No system. Put the stroke down… and leave it alone. It knows what it is doing. Better than me, sometimes.

She has a long name too, you know. Liberty Enlightening the World. Everybody just says… Liberty.

Shh… a little more yellow… on the moon. Or is it the sun? I could not decide.

Voilà. She stood very still for me. The sky did not. Paint what you feel, my friend. Ever yours… Vincent.

Every stroke in the painting chapters is a real recorded brush mark from Arthaus’s native replay.

Notes from the canvas
- **Ground:** slate grey-green. - **First marks (285–560):** a pale sage oval upper left (285), a cobalt dab at the top (305), an ochre oval at the right (325), then blue, dark olive and brown ovals in the lower half, and a bright yellow-orange oval lower right (~460). - **Time-lapse (600–840):** blue and gold patches everywhere. By 650 there is a green standing figure, an ochre pedestal block and a yellow moon at the top right. By 700–800 the blue sky has gold cloud masses, the pedestal glows gold, and a gold reflection runs down dark blue water. At 840 the detail snaps in: the green statue with torch, the golden pedestal, a city skyline at the right, swirls in the sky. - **Refine (985–1385):** the sky swirls tighten into directional stroke trains, especially round the moon. The crown spikes, the robe folds, the pedestal windows and the skyline sharpen. The water breaks into horizontal dashes. - **Touches (1390–1561):** small hero marks. The clearest is an **orange-yellow touch on the moon at frame 1468** (x 0.88, y 0.095 from top; spec focus [0.883, 0.905]). The others are golden yellow in the clouds (1403, 1416), blues in the sky (1442–1507) and a dark green on the island (1559). - **The disc:** with gold-lit clouds it reads as either a sun or a moon. The touch line turns that into a joke.
