Notes from the canvas

- **Ground:** dark olive umber. - **First marks (285–545):** dull olive and moss-green ovals (foliage), dark browns, a warm tan at the lower right, and at **frame 465 one near-black mark (rgb 7,7,9) at the centre (x 0.55, y 0.55 from top): the cave mouth, the darkest value, laid in early.** - **About 600–640:** patchwork; a cluster of darks gathers around that black mark, lighter greys and tans around it. - **About 680–840:** the cave reads as a dark triangle against lighter rock and foliage; by 840 the arch, ledge and path are recognisable. - **Refinement (985–1385):** the limestone ledge and the sunlit rock lip on the right of the mouth sharpen; the edge where lit rock turns into the dark interior stays soft. Ferns get crisp; the trees at the back left turn paler and hazier than the foreground ferns. - **Touches:** the palest touch is cream (207,181,158) at frame 1468, x 0.44, y 0.87 from top: sunlit ground at the left edge of the path. - **Final:** dark cave mouth under a sunlit ledge, ferns, a pale path.

Recorded brush execution demonstrates how this digital canvas was built. It does not establish historically recovered gestures or a physical simulation of paint.

The research evidence does not establish independently validated artist-wide style.
